Atascadero...near Santa Maria

Going for a walk in Atascadero. I was sleeping.

This was the first night B&B. Named...O'Brian Hilltop Hacienda. The owners, Kandy & Mike, where very gracious and welcoming. We were the only guests that night. Mike also has a business making porclein sinks. He is currently making 300 dinner plates for his daughter's upcoming wedding. They say "How wonderful life is while you're in the world."

Our first night we stayed in Atascadaro. It was nice to sit in this hot tub and watch the stars. Also the highway (in the distance) looked like a string of rope lights cutting across the mountain landscape. It was interesting that we couldn't hear the usually noisy sound a highway makes.

Hearst Castle

Michael stands in the shadow of this amazing pool.

Beautiful statues are proof of William Randolf Hearst's eye for detail.

Marble is widely used.

The outdoor pool is spectacular!

There are 5 tours of the castle. We are going on tour 2, which takes us into the private rooms of Mr. Hearst and the room I really wanted to see...the libraries.

Ornate moldings. The brown is made of teek.

I liked this room. It's a library, but more like a conference room. This is where W.R. Hearst did much of his work.

View from second floor.

This painting of the madonna is the most valuable piece in the entire castle. Damn, my flash went off again!

Do I look sick? The castle was my favorite part of the trip.

No Flash Photography allowed! This pool has gold leaf inlay everywhere.

On the way to Solvang. This is Morro Rock

Our room was nice. It's called "The Little Mermaid"

Mission Santa Ines

Mission Santa Ines, founded in 1804. This mission is located right in Solvang. It's about 3 blocks from our B&B.

I don't like to see cars and pavement built so close to a mission...just looks wrong to me.

Inside the Chapel.

Inside the grounds of Mission Santa Ines.

Big Cross grave marking.

Grave at the mission.

Solvang...The Storybook Inn Bed & Breakfast

Front Door.

Our B&B in Solvang was very nice. The Storybook Inn. Too bad it's covered by trees and you can't really see how lovely it is.

Cafe Angelica

Night Out...I'm about to cough.

Cleaver use for old wine bottles...nightlight.

Cute Phone Booth

Much of the movie "Sideways" was filmed here recently and this particular wine was featured and served at cast parties.
